This year we are again doing our Mild Ale walk across St Helens Town Centre. We have cut the number of pubs down a bit as it was getting a bit tough to get through everywhere in the time provided. But we are going to focus on quality by drinking Championship winning mild's in each pub. Everyone is welcome to join us in what has in previous years been a very enjoyable night. Many thanks in advance to the publicans involved for supplying such great quality beers.
The Mayor welcoming CAMRA members from around the country as they visited The Cricketers on Friday night. As a branch we staged several social events for visitors to the National AGM and the feedback we received was excellent. Hopefully our visitors will return home and spread the word of how good St Helens is for real ale and ciders.
The 2016 St Helens CAMRA Pub of the Year is The Cricketers Arms Peter St. Runner up: Turks Head
Congratulations to the team at the Cricketers on scooping the prize for the third successive year. After an extensive judging process involving lots of members the Peter St boozer came out on top. Branch chairman Alan Healey said “ I think the standard of pub in this competition gets better and better year on year. Our town now has several excellent pubs that could all represent the town brilliantly in the regional competition but for all the hard work and dedication they have put in Andy and Denise are worthy winners. I am looking forward to our awards night on Friday May 27th. It is now important that members keep beerscoring the pubs in St Helens and Prescot and the selection process for next years shortlist has already started. It should be another great competition.”
The short-listing process has now taken place and based on the beerscores throughout 2015 here are our top 6
All members are encouraged to now survey the 6 pubs and return their completed form at or before the Committee meeting held at The Union on 24/02/2016. Please download the forms and get scoring.
CHANGE OF VENUE
We have reluctantly changed the venue for this week's branch meeting as the Ship Inn Blackbrook as it is currently not serving real ale (although we are assured it will return next week).
Therefore we have moved the meeting to the Talbot Ale House (formerly the Sportsman's) on Duke Street. The meeting time remains the same 8pm.
Hopefully see you there
The next branch meeting is at the Ship Inn Blacbrook on Wednesday 9th December 2015
