Friday night saw an excellent turnout of members at our branch social at the Rainhill Rotary Beer Festival. It was an excellent night in a very busy festival (early reports are that it is 25% up on last year). Well done to the Rotary Club for organising such an enjoyable event and well done to the people of Rainhill for backing it so enthusiastically. Lots of young people drinking real ale is great to see- and some more dodgy looking people as well.
Duke Street is increasingly turning into a proper real ale street. The latest bar to join the real ale revolution in the town is the News Bar which is installing a hand pump to sell George Wright's Pipedream in response to the demand they have for their bottled beers.
The branch is sponsoring a barrel at this ever popular event and holding a social on the Friday night session.
The beer is Madagascan Ale by Saltaire and it is 5% abv. Number 79.
More information can be found on the Rainhill Beer Festival website.
Hope to see you all there.
Another great day for St Helens CAMRA with well over 60 people coming on a very enjoyable trip to Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley. All the ales tried were excellent and enjoyed in in very good company. Many thanks to every one who came. The raffle on the coach raised £97 which we will now use to sponsor a barrel at the Rainhill Beer Festival in 7th - 9th November. Special thanks to Andy Evans and Daryl Arrowsmith for all their hard work organising the trip.
Sandy our Cider Rep staged a very successful tutored cider tasting in the Turk's Head, highlighting how real cider is flourishing in the town. The next cider tasting event is in the Cricketers on 29/10/2013. Anyone interested in sampling some of the more unusual ciders or Sandy's famous apple cake so make their way their for 8pm
